Facelifts are having a major moment, but one question comes up more than any other: How long do the results actually last? On the latest episode of The Beauty Authority, NewBeauty Director of Aesthetic Content Tatiana Bido sat down with New York facial plastic surgeon Dilip Madnani, MD to discuss facelift longevity, why today’s procedures look more natural than ever and how patients can maximize their results.
While every patient ages differently, Dr. Madnani says most facelifts last 10 to 15 years, though you’ll continue to look younger than if you’d never had surgery. “Whenever you’ve had a facelift, you’ll always look younger and fresher than if you never had one,” he says. “My answer always is it lasts as long as you do.”
He also notes that today’s facelift is rarely just a facelift. Procedures are often combined with eyelid surgery, brow lifts, fat transfer and laser resurfacing to create balanced, natural-looking rejuvenation. Maintaining those results requires ongoing skin care, yearly skin-tightening and resurfacing treatments, a stable weight and healthy lifestyle habits.
The episode also explores how GLP-1 medications are changing facelift consultations, why younger patients are considering surgery earlier and how to know when it’s truly time for a facelift. One of Dr. Madnani’s biggest takeaways? “We don’t treat patients based on their age. We treat them based on their skin laxity.”
