If you don’t already know Carley Fortune, you’re about to. The Canadian author has sold more than three million copies of her novels worldwide, been translated into 30 languages across 50 territories and was the top-selling Canadian author of 2025. Her four books, Every Summer After, Meet Me at the Lake, This Summer Will Be Different and One Golden Summer, have the kind of devoted readership that shows up in matching tote bags.
All four are being adapted for screen: Meet Me at the Lake is in development as a Netflix film with Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions, This Summer Will Be Different is also headed to Netflix and Every Year After—the Amazon Prime series she executive produced—debuts this week. So, when Fortune stepped onto the red carpet for the Every Year After premiere, the look had to be worthy of the moment, and it was. The dress, by rising Canadian designer Anmol Handa of Anmol Handa Atelier (fresh off a runway show at Fashion Art Toronto), set the tone.

“When I tied the scarf around my head, it felt like a moment,” Fortune says. “Romantic but unexpected, very much like my books.” Styled by Amber Watkins, with shoes by Stuart Weitzman, jewelry by Swarovski and a Jimmy Choo bag, the look was a full editorial moment. But the beauty, created by makeup artist Meredith Baraf and hairstylist Stacey Weinstein of Loft 26 NYC, is what we’re here for.

Baraf built the base with the NARS Light Reflecting Foundation ($55) and Natasha Denona Hy-Glam Corrector ($32), then layered dimension with the m.ph by Mary Phillips Underpainting Face Highlight & Contour Palette ($64) and Makeup by Mario SoftSculpt Bronzing & Shaping Serum ($36)—all grounded in a luminous, skin-like finish courtesy of Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Water Powder Serum ($39).

A wash of warmth came from RMS Beauty ReDimension Hydra Bronzer in Tan Lines ($38), while the Patrick Ta Major Headlines Double-Take Crème & Powder Blush Duo in She’s the Moment ($40) added that perfect flush. Eyes were done with the Makeup by Mario Ethereal Eyes Eyeshadow Palette ($69). Lips finished the story with Dior Addict Lip Maximizer in 010 Holographic Pink ($42), a barely-there gloss that’s somehow everything.

Every Year After debuts on Amazon Prime on June 10. Fortune’s next novel, Our Perfect Storm, a story about best friends, a cancelled honeymoon and all the secrets a week in Tofino can unearth, is out now.
